This year linux.conf.au 2016 is working with Deakin Residential Services to provide student-style accommodation to our delegates. The accommodation must be booked directly with Deakin Residential Services here.
Deakin Residential Units are located on 200 acres of the picturesque grounds of Deakin University’s Waurn Ponds Campus. Situated approximately 12 kilometres west of the city of Geelong, 20 kilometres from Torquay’s beaches and the beginning of the Great Ocean Road and 7 kilometres from the Barwon River.
The university-style self-contained units have shared bathrooms, kitchens, dining and lounges facilities. Each guest is accommodated in their own furnished bedroom with a single bed, study desk and wardrobe.
Please note that bookings are prepaid at time of booking and non-refundable. Deakin Residences accommodation is priced at around $53 per night.
Breakfast is not included in this price and you will need to self-cater for this.
Deakin Residential Units are located a 20 minute walk from nearby Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre, which has supermarkets, an array of eateries and general retail. The Waurn Ponds hotel - known amongst locals as 'The Ponds', is also a favoured eating and drinking spot within easy walking distance.
We'll be running shuttle buses between the linux.conf.au 2016 venue and the Deakin Student Residences accommodation to get you there and back safely. This means you'll need to be up bright and early to make it to the keynotes on time!
There are a range of hotels and motels in central Geelong, however accommodation is particularly tight on the night of Saturday 30th January due to a major sporting event in Geelong on that day. We strongly advise that you arrange travel to arrive in Geelong on Sunday 31st January due to the demand for accommodation on the evening of Saturday 30th January. Do not leave it to the last minute to arrange hotel accommodation!
Because of the sporting event, we cannot secure blocks of accommodation at major hotels. You will need to arrange your own accommodation, and to assist you, we've listed all the major accommodation venues in Geelong below. All the accommodation providers listed below are within walking distance of the conference venue. Please do check the exact distance if required.
Accommodation outside of the student residences will be tight during the conference, and if you're looking offsite, you may find the below crowd-sourcing based platforms useful for identifying accommodation options.
